Job Role: Senior Laboratory Projects Manager/Scientist
Are you a qualified laboratory scientist with Oil and Gas Industry experience? We have an opportunity for you with a renowned SME in Cornwall.
We seek a Senior Laboratory Projects Manager/Scientist to join our motivated, multi-disciplinary, customer-focused team. You will manage projects, liaise with clients, and work with significant responsibility and autonomy. Support the Managing Director with daily operations and assist the Management team in business planning, development, and growth.
Principal Duties
- Conduct a variety of laboratory tests for both routine and research and development work.
- Self-manage daily workload:
- Manage laboratory resources
- Handle data
- Plot results
- Analyse and report data as needed.
- Serve as the client liaison to ensure all aspects of the project are conducted in the best interest of the client and the laboratory.
- Oversee project scoping, planning, execution, and management activities to ensure on-time delivery, within budget, and meeting or exceeding expectations, including:
- Prepare proposals/quotations
- Hold meetings
- Set priorities
- Evaluate comments/requests
- Ensure stakeholder approval.
- Coordinate resource requirements with other ongoing project work and align stakeholder expectations.
- Monitor project status and effectively communicate progress to both the client and Managing Director.
- Track progress and provide timely updates on milestones, dependencies, risks, and issues to key stakeholders.
- Maintain records of completed tests and man-hours utilised for individual projects to provide accurate invoicing instructions.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and project documentation requirements.
- Directly manage Scientists and Specialists. Supervisory responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Managing projects
- Training employees
- Coaching staff
- Assigning work
- Making business decisions.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Possession of a degree in chemistry, geology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in laboratory aspects associated with oilfield chemistry/geology and/or research and development activities.
- Ability to adapt to diverse laboratory procedures and exercise sound judgment in practical matters.
- Demonstrated accuracy and traceability through the application of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Capability to work independently and effectively adapt to rapidly changing priorities and responsibilities.
- Proven ability to produce high-quality, repeatable work within established deadlines.
- Adherence to core test processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs) with meticulous attention to detail.
- Compliance with procedures and Health & Safety Regulations.
- Experience in project management.
- Experience in direct supervision of personnel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Competence in identifying and solving moderately complex problems, and articulating proposed solutions across various issues in written and verbal form to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Capability to identify and drive the implementation of process improvement opportunities.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Direct experience in wax deposition and rheology, gas hydrates, and inorganic scale.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and/or ISO 45001 standards.
- Experience in operations management.
- Experience in financial management.
- Experience in business development.
