Production Chemistry – Theory & Practical Training Course
Following the success of the courses run in 2024, this is the second of two courses planned for 2025. As before it is being offered in partnership with Creative Chemical Solutions (CCS) and will be held at our laboratory facilities in Cornwall, England, UK.
The course provides a comprehensive journey through key production chemistry domains, including asphaltenes, corrosion, hydrates, waxes, scale, foams, and emulsion. In addition, it will detail the role of production chemists and the chemical treatment types available, including their evaluation, deployment, and optimisation. The theory: practical split will be roughly 50:50 with taught modules, knowledge-checking interactive quizzes, and skill-building workshop sessions complimented by hands-on laboratory tests and practical exercises, ensuring that attendees are well-prepared to tackle real-world scenarios. A certificate of attendance will be issued upon completion of the course.
Key learning highlights
- Introduction to production chemistry: its role, chemical types, treatment deployment and HSE considerations.
- Scale Management: Explore industry-standard techniques for selecting scale inhibitors and gain hands-on experience in conducting compatibility and efficiency tests. Learn to interpret dynamic flow loop test data and understand testing in porous media using KAT’s specialist equipment.
- Hydrates: Gain insights into gas hydrates and their implications for production, with demonstrations of KAT’s cutting-edge equipment.
- Rheology: Explore how wax crystals influence fluid behaviour and rheological properties, with hands-on experience in measuring key parameters.
- Asphaltenes: Understand the impact of asphaltene precipitation on fluid behaviour and rheological properties through titrations and industry-standard methodologies.
- Waxes and Deposition: Delve into the composition of waxes, their role in pipeline performance, and practical sessions using advanced equipment for wax prediction.
- Foaming and Emulsions: Engage in practical demonstrations of KAT’s foaming rig and assess the impact of anti-foam additives. Gain firsthand experience in preparing oil/water emulsions and evaluating chemical additives for water separation.
- Chemical Optimisation & Management: Production chemical testing and evaluation, field application and performance monitoring.
